Sydney I. Watkins, a 73-year-old resident of Pearl’s II Residential Care in Princeton, died on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 12, 2005 at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton.

Sydney I. Watkins, a 73-year-old resident of Pearl’s II Residential Care in Princeton, died on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 12, 2005 at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton.

Memorial services will be held at 11a.m. on Friday Nov. 18, 2005 at the Christian Church of Princeton. Rev. Dan Wilford and Rev. Gary Watkins will officiate. Private burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery at Trenton. The body was cremated under the direction of Slater Funeral Home at Trenton.

A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the Christian Church of Princeton.

Mr. Watkins, was born on Nov. 29, 1931 in Jamesport, the son of Hugh Palmer and Lesta Opal Graham Watkins. He attended McVay Grade School and graduated from Spickard High School in 1949. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army. He farmed west of Spickard and also was a feed representative for MoorMan Feed. He moved to Princeton in October 2003.

He was a former member and deacon of Modena Baptist Church in Modena, and was a member of the Christian Church of Princeton.

He was married on Oct. 16, 1949 at Trenton to Dorothy Barnes, who survives of the home.

Also surviving are four sons, David Watkins and his wife, Carolyn, of Spickard, Rick Watkins and his wife, Connie, of Spickard, Ronald Watkins and his wife, Rita, of Meridian, MS. and Gary Watkins and his wife, Cherie, of Princeton; one brother, Hugh G. Watkins and his wife, Mary, of Spickard; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family has suggested memorials to either the ALS or Christian Church of Princeton. They may be left at the Slater Funeral Home.
