Opal M. Steele, an 87-year-old Chillicothe resident, died on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005 at the home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Chillicothe. Burial will be in the Shelburne Cemetery near Trenton.
A scheduled family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005 at the Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe. General visitation will be held from 8 a.m to 9 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Steele was born on Jan. 8, 1918, the daughter of Charley and Ora Maxey Dockery in Grundy County.
On Feb. 23, 1935, she was married at Excelsior Springs to Orville “O.C.” Steele, who survives of the home. They lived in the Grundy and Livingston County areas since 1945, moving from Chicago, IL.
Mrs. Steele was a homemaker and served as the cafeteria manager of Central School for over 20 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chillicothe and Woodmen of the World. She enjoyed cooking and sewing.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Steele is survived by a son, Wayne Steele and his wife, Virginia, of Chillicothe; two daughters, Barbara Wilford and her husband, Donnie, of Trenton, and Gloria Simmer and her husband, Len, of Chillicothe; three grandchildren, Kim Wilford and Shawn Simmer of Chillicothe and Andrea Howard of Nashville, TN; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers and two sisters.
The family has suggested memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or Hedrick Medical Center Home Health Hospice. These may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, PO Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601.
