Laredo, Spickard City Councils Meet
The Laredo and Spickard city councils met on Thursday night, choosing administrators for a grant and swearing in a new council member.
Laredo
City Clerk Joyce Stimpson said the Laredo City Council chose the Green Hills Regional Planning Commission to serve as administrator for its Community Development Block Grant. The RPC was one of two bidders for the administrative duties. Mrs. Stimpson said the selection of the RPC will be forwarded to the CDBG office in Jefferson City, which will have final approval.
The council set a special meeting for Nov. 15 to work on next year’s budget and to determine the new water rates. Mrs. Stimpson said water rates are going to be increased in an effort to cover costs incurred for the Department of Natural Resources Loan the city has received for the water tower.
It was announced that winners of the city’s Christmas lighting contest will be announced during a craft fair at the school on Dec. 10. In addition to the fair, the Lions Club will hold a soup supper and sleigh rides will be available. Mrs. Stimpson said the lighting contest is open to all residents in the city of Laredo.
The next meeting of the Laredo City Council will be at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6, which is two days earlier than the normal meeting date.
Spickard
Rick Crawford was given the oath of office to serve as south ward alderman until the April city election during the meeting of the Spickard City Council.
City Clerk DeAnn Olson said Crawford replaces Terry Gibson, who resigned for personal reasons.
Water customers are also being reminded that they are responsible for protecting meters from freezing during the winter months. The cost to repair or replace the meters will be billed to the customers should the meters freeze.
The next meeting of the council will be on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
