The Trenton Tree Board met on Tuesday, discussing plans for Arbor Day and making plans to inform residents about city ordinances relating to growing trees and shrubs.

According to information provided by board secretary Bev Whorton, Arbor Day activities have been set for April 28, 2006. A poster contest will be held and prizes in the form of savings bonds will be awarded for first-, second- and third-place winners. The prizes will be $100, $75 and $50. Four more Prairie fire Crabapple trees will be planted along the walking trail, with funds for the trees coming from donations made in memory of the late Nancy Cullers.

The board will be starting an informational effort to remind property owners of their responsibilities concerning “blind intersections” caused by growing trees or shrubs. There is a city ordinance regulating this and the board will have an article printed in the Trenton Republican-Times newspaper, outlining the information.

Work is also being done to complete the application to recertify the city of Trenton as a 2006 Tree City USA. The application must be submitted by Dec. 31.
