Trenton High School junior Melissa Gay was selected as a soprano alternate for the Missouri All-State Choir following auditions on Saturday, Oct. 29.

Junior and senior members of all-district choirs are allowed to audition for the all-state choir and only four students from each section (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) and one alternate are selected.

Being named to the Missouri All-State Choir is the highest honor a vocal music student can receive during their high school career.

Miss Gay has been a member of the all-district choir for three years and has received Superior I ratings for district solo, two years; state solo, two years; district ensemble, one year; and aria and art song festival, two years. She was a member of the MCDA Honor Choir for two years, was named Soprano Honor Camper at the Northwest Missouri State University music camp for two years and was awarded a scholarship to attend music camp from Sigma Alpha Iota, music fraternity for women.

Miss Gay has been a member of concert choir and Gold Rush since her freshman year and this fall was selected as a nominee for the Missouri Fine Arts Academy. She is the daughter of Sharry Gay and a student of Elizabeth Robbins, THS vocal music instructor.
