Hubert D. King, an 81-year-old resident of Gilman City, died on Monday, Oct. 31, 2005 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron.

Hubert D. King, an 81-year-old resident of Gilman City, died on Monday, Oct. 31, 2005 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005 at the Slater Funeral Home in Trenton. Rev. Lyle Watkins will officiate. Burial will be in the Groff Cemetery, located northwest of Spickard.

Military graveside services will be conducted by the Joseph L. Norton Post No. 919, V.F.W., of Trenton.

A family visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. King was born on Dec. 9, 1923 in Spickard, the son of T.R. “Bert” and Effie Agnes Fair King. He graduated from Spickard High School and lived and farmed in the Melbourne and Brimson area most of his life. He was wounded while serving overseas during World War II in the U.S. Army 359th Infantry, 90th Division.

He was a member of the DAV No. 60 of Trenton and the Spickard Baptist Church. He enjoyed animals and spend many hours with his coonhounds. He was also a caretaker for his parents for many years. He also enjoyed spending time on the farm with his many nieces and nephews.

He is survived by two brothers, Rex King of the home, and Ed King of Cainsville; three sisters, Ruth Pettigrew and Arlene Holtzclaw, both of Excelsior Springs, and Carolyn Ann Anderson of Des Moines, IA; and several nieces and nephews, including Marvin Anderson of Gilman City, who Hubert helped raise.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Donald King and Harold King, who died in early childhood.

The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association.
