Charles Eugene Donelson, a 64-year-old resident of Princeton, died on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005 at the Taylor House Hospice, in Des Moines, IA.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 31, 2005 at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Lineville, IA. Rev. Robert Markum officiated. Burial was in the Allerton, IA, Cemetery.
Mr. Donelson was born on July 9, 1941 in Mercer County, the son of Charles Fred and Lena Leona Ceradsky Donelson. He was raised in Mercer County and graduated in 1959 from Princeton High School. He worked at a service station for Ovie Covey, then later worked for Johnson Trucking of Promise City, IA. He began construction Work for Marvin Swan Construction in 1974 and for Kevin Kent Construction in 1990. He worked on road maintenance for the Somerset Township in Mercer County from 1998 until 2000. He retired in January 2001.
He was an army veteran, joining the Army in February 1961, serving with the Transportation Company in Germany for two and one-half years. He was discharged in May 1964. He was a member of the Ragan-Hickman American Legion Post No. 477 of Mercer. His hobbies included hunting and visiting the coffee shop.
He was married to Joan Jeffries, whom he later divorced. He was married on Dec. 20, 1968 to Rebecca “Becky” Ann Zimmerman, who survives of the home, northeast of Princeton.
He is also survived by two daughters, Virginia Sue Tippetts and her husband, Craig, of Jerome, ID, and Vickie Black and her husband, Richard of Ottumwa, IA; two sons, Kenneth and John Leroy Donelson, both of Princeton; one brother, Raymond Donelson and his wife, Mary, of Princeton; one nephew, Dale Donelson of Princeton; five grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
