Lester Aude Hughs, a 91-year-old resident of Eastview Manor Care Center, died at 4:49 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005 at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton, where he had been a patient for a few hours.

Lester Aude Hughs, a 91-year-old resident of Eastview Manor Care Center, died at 4:49 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005 at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton, where he had been a patient for a few hours.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14, 2005 at the Whitaker Eads Funeral Home in Trenton. A scheduled family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, located north of Trenton.

Mr. Hughs was born on Oct. 27, 1913 near Melbourne in Grundy County, the son of Samp Sherman and Bertha Florance Colwell. After graduating from high school, he worked in the coal mines near Brimson for 20 years.

He was married on June 3, 1940 at Trenton to Erma Lilith Brown , who preceded him in death on Dec. 14, 1963. He was married to on May 15, 1964 at Brimson to Hulda Mae Shaw Barlow, who preceded him in death on Sept. 29, 1990.

Mr. Hughs farmed in the Brimson community for 50 years and in addition to farming, he was also employed as a lead man at Trenton Foods from 1955 to 1975. They moved into Trenton to make their home in 1959.

Mr. Hughs joined the Brimson Baptist Church in 1928 and had attended the Pilot Grove #1 Church before moving his membership to the Coon Creek Baptist Church a few years ago.

Mr. Hughs is survived by a daughter, Nancy Maples, and her husband, John, of Brimson; two sons, Robert Hughs and his wife, Rita, of Trenton, and Jerry Hughs and his wife, Linda, of Brimson; seven grandchildren, Timothy Hughs, Kenneth Hughs, Erma Newton, Rhonda Hughs, Sheryle Ann Walker, Lesa Sue Hughs and Marcie Cutsinger; 14 great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several step-great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Loma Hickman of Trenton; three step-daughters, Sue Stiles of Trenton, Loretta Pelletier of San Diego, CA and Kathryn Smith of Ozark; four brothers, Arthur Hughs, John Hughs, Marion Hughs and Gilbert Hughs, all of Trenton; and four sisters, Elizabeth Kirk, Jessie Beckwith and Joyce Zinn of Topeka, KS, and Mary Allen of St. Charles; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by four step-sons, Bill Barlow, and Lawrence Dale, Russell and Ralph Allen; a brothers, James Hughs; two great-grandchildren, Timothy Aude Hughs Jr., and Cara Dee Hughs; and a step-grandson, Clifford Stiles.

The family has suggested memorial contributions be given to the Coon Creek Cemetery.
