Johns Sentencing Set For Nov. 18
The sentencing hearing for former Green Hills Regional Planning Commission executive director Michael Johns has been set for 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 18 in the federal courthouse in Kansas City.
Johns pleaded guilty in May to federal program fraud in relation to the use of unauthorized loans. Johns was executive director of the RPC from 1980 to 2002, when his employment with the agency was terminated. He also served as an officer of the board of the Green Hills Rural Development, Inc., a non-profit agency operated by the RPC, from 1981 to 2002.
A co-defendant in the case, Denise Stottlemyre, was sentenced in federal court last month to three years of probation and was ordered to pay a $5,000 for her connection with the charges. She was a former community planner and assistant director of the RPC from 1990 to 2002 and while not a member of the RDI board, performed duties for both the RDI and RPC.
