Funeral services for Margaret Arline Seidel Kurtz will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Trenton. Rev. Barry Boulware will officiate.
There is no family visitation at the Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home in Trenton.
Mrs. Kurtz, an 83-year-old resident of Trenton, died at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19, 2005 at the Sunnyview Nursing Home in Trenton, where she had resided since November 2000.
Mrs Kurtz was born on May 28, 1922 in Lancaster, KS, the daughter of Joseph Peter and Margaret Ione DeTar Groh. She graduated high school in Overbrook, KS and attended four years at Baker University in Baldwin City, KS.
She was married on March 14, 1944 in Wathena, KS, to Dean Willis Seidel, who preceded her in death on June 6, 1980. They lived in Beloit, KS, St. Joseph and Wathena before moving to Trenton in 1954. She was married on April 5, 1984 at Trenton to Robert Marvin Kurtz, who preceded her in death on March 8, 2000.
Mrs Kurtz was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, the Riverside Country Club and Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She was the choir director and organist at the Wesley United Methodist Church for over 30 years and also taught private piano lessons. She enjoyed athletic events and participated in tennis at college and was the women’s golf champion at the Riverside Country Club in the 1990’s. She was a Chiefs and Royals fan until her death.
She is survived by two sons, Allan Seidel and his wife, Carol, of Trenton, and Bill Seidel and his wife, Sally, of Deltona, FL; one daughter, Pam Johansen and her husband, Mark, of Santa Cruz, CA; one brother, Marvin Groh of Lawrence, KS: two step-sons, Bob Kurtz and his wife, Robin, of Trimble, and Dr. Mark Kurtz and his wife, Diane, of Leland, MS; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents.
The family suggests memorials to the “Invest in the Vision” capital campaign at North Central Missouri College or the Wesley United Methodist Church. These may be left at or mailed to the Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home, 813 Custer St., Trenton, MO 64683.
