The Spickard R-2 Board of Education met Thursday evening, amending the district’s tax levy rate and hearing a report of the district Adequate Yearly Progress.

According to District Secretary Makella Hagan, the board rolled back its levy for the incidental fund by 20 cents to $4.168 on the $100 assessed valuation. The action was required because one line on the formula that determines the levy was misread. The overall 2005 levy is now $4.6963 on the $100 assessed valuation.

Principal Danny Johnson reported that the district met Adequate Yearly Progress by meeting state requirements in both the communication arts and mathematics areas.

In other business, the board approved the Special Education Assurance Statement, approved the renewal of two certificates of deposit at Farmers Bank of Northern Missouri and approved a plan to begin a tutoring program for all grades on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Also approved was the seventh and eighth grade basketball schedule, which includes a tournament normally held at Laredo. That district was unable to field a team this year, so Spickard will host the tournament for one year.

It was also announced that the district received a $250 scholarship from the Missouri School Boards Association based on attendance at a recent meeting. Those funds will be used to provide a bus to the Princeton football games for Spickard students. An executive session was held, with no announcement made.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 25, which is a change in the regular meeting date due to the secretary being out of town for a meeting on the regular date.
