“The Heat is On” is the theme of the 2005 Trenton High School Homecoming, which is being organized by the THS Student Council, with events scheduled for Sept. 19-24.

Candidates for the Homecoming princess, queen and escorts have been chosen by their respective classes. Candidates for princess and their escorts include freshmen Tasha Hutchinson and Cree Beverlin; sophomore JaNea Whitney and Scott Stevens; and Trisha Ireland and Derek Miller, juniors. The senior queen candidates include Amanda Gray, Whitney Hanes, Adriane Hoffman, Cassie Murphy and Ashten Witten. Senior escorts are Andy Hahn, Kenton, Kinney, Adam McClure, Zane Robinson and Kyle Sharp.

The crownbearers for the crowning on Thursday, Sept. 22 are Salem Croy, daughter of Wes and Jenny Croy, and Gage Albrecht, son of Quentin and Becky Albrecht.

Spirit Week activities will kick off on Monday, Sept. 19 with Geek/Fashion Disaster Day. Students are encouraged to come dressed in mismatched, outdated, odd-looking attire. They will vie to see who can make it in Glamour magazine’s “Don’t” looks. Tuesday will be Class Colors Day. The freshmen are to come dressed in green, the sophomores in blue, juniors in orange, the seniors in pink, and the faculty in black and white. Wednesday will be Hillbilly/Hick Day. Thursday will be Multiplicity Day, which is an elaboration of Twin Day. Participants are to match as many people as they can. Friday will be the traditional Spirit Day, with students, faculty and personnel dressed in the school colors of black and gold. Also during the week, the classes will compete with each other in a hall decorating contest.

The Pep Rally and Bonfire will take place at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22 at C.F. Russell Stadium. Included in the activities will be the introduction of the fall sports teams, cheerleaders and mascots. Following the introductions, the coronation will take place. Student Council officers Derek Thorne and Alana Tolle will crown the 2005 queen and princess. The emcee for the evening will be Trenton Middle School Assistant Principal Kris Ockenfels. Immediately following the coronation, the Trenton Quarterback Club will hold the annual bonfire.

The parade is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, with Rissler Elementary School classes to be dismissed at 12:50 p.m. and Trenton Middle School and Trenton High School students to be dismissed at 1:07 p.m. The parade will begin in the high school parking lot and will turn right on Normal Street, left at 17th Street, left at Harris Avenue and left again on Ninth Street. The parade will conclude at McDonalds. The grand marshals for the 2005 parade are Ron and Marsha Hurst. Both are former teachers in the R-9 District and Ron also served as the assistant superintendent.

Prior to the kickoff of the game Friday night against Lathrop, the queen and their princess and their escorts will be introduced. The girls will be escorted down the 50-yard line by their fathers. Assisting with the introductions will be the THS Marching Band, under the direction of Tim Gilham., and the THS Color Guard, under the direction of Taya Moore. Following the introductions, the THS Concert Choir and Gold members, directed by Elizabeth Robbins, will sing the national anthem. The pre-game activities will begin at 6:25 when the royalty enters the stadium in cars and circles the field on the track. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, the students will dance to the music of a DJ group from the Kansas City area called Music Video to Go. The students will enjoy watching videos on two 16-feet by 21-feet video screens, confetti machines, video alienation, nine different lighting systems, an interactive video system, a video special effects computer, a video camera person who will take live shots of the crowd and project them onscreen, and a huge area concert digital sound system. The dance will be from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. in the high school gym. Admission to the dance is $5 per person. Bailey Studio of Chillicothe will also be available to take pictures that the students can purchase.
