TAG Audition Set For Sunday
Auditions for the Trenton Acting Guild production of the heart-winning classic comedy, “I Remember Mama” will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Grundy County-Jewett Norris Library.
The plays tells the story of a working-class family of Norwegian immigrants in 1910 San Francisco. Mama and Papa Hanson guide their three daughters and one son through the trials of growing up. One daughter is eight years old and the other is 13. The son is 15 to 20 years old. The story is told through the eyes of elder daughter Katrin, who grows up to be a writer.
Other important characters are Mama’s three sisters, who love to gossip and comment on each other’s lives. One of the sisters has a suitor, Mr. Torkelson, and another has a young son of about eight. In addition, Mama has a rich uncle, who is at odds with the sisters over his wife and the way he spends his money.
Other characters include friends of the children, a doctor and some nurses who treat one of the children and a writer whom Mama gets to help Katrin with her stories. The family also has a boarder who encourages the family’s love of books. Finally, an even-tempered cat will be needed to play Uncle Elizabeth, the youngest child’s pet.
Copies of the script are available for perusal in the Grundy County Library. Members of the NCMC Introduction to Theatre class will provide backstage, technical and other support for the production as part of a service learning component of the course. Rehearsals will begin Thursday, Sept. 22 and will be held twice a week on Sunday afternoons and Thursday evenings. Call 359-6229 for more information.
“I Remember Mama” will be presented in the Hoover Theatre in the Grundy County Library on Nov. 18, 19 and 20 as part of the Grundy County Friends of the Arts season.
