Joan Louise Mitchell, a 79-year-old resident of Cainsville, died on Monday, Aug. 29, 2005 at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph.

Joan Louise Mitchell, a 79-year-old resident of Cainsville, died on Monday, Aug. 29, 2005 at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005 at the Cainsville Christian Church. Rev. Royce Smith will officiate. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery, east of Cainsville, under the direction of the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Service at Princeton.

Visitation will be held from 8 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home, followed by a family visitation from noon until service time on Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Mitchell was born on March 4, 1926 in Kansas City, the daughter of Frank and Julia Roubinek Peshek. She was raised in the Cainsville community, where she lived most of her life as a housewife and farmer. She was a 1944 graduate of Cainsville High School and was a member of the Christian church. She enjoyed playing the piano and guitar and played for many funerals as well as gave piano lessons. She also enjoyed collecting shoes, rugs and gardening.

She was married to Wilford Wayne Mitchell, who preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 1975.

She is survived by a daughter Mary Garoutte and her husband Jim, of Rushville; three sons, Dean Mitchell and his wife, Gloria, of St. Joseph, Gary Mitchell of St. Joseph and Lary Mitchell of Washington D.C.; four grandchildren, Nicholas and Ryan Mitchell of St. Joseph, Daniel Garoutte and his wife, Stacy, of Atchison, KS, and Travis Garoutte of Weston; and two great-grandchildren, Jaden Lee and Alexus Nicole Garoutte.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Shawn Garoutte.
