Wilbur Hadley (W.H.) Tharp, a 90-year-old resident of Breckenridge, died on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005 at Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 29, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Breckenridge. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Breckenridge. Arrangments were under the direction of the Lindley Funeral Home.
Mr. Tharp was born Oct. 21, 1914, the son of Joseph Franklin and Sarah “Sadie” Ann Brown Tharp in Mercer. He was married in Grundy County on Jan. 21, 1941 to Hazel Booth, who survives of the home.
W.H. had worked as a machinist for Armco Steel Company for 21 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Breckenridge, where he was a deacon, song leader and Sunday school teacher. After his retirement, he volunteered at the Chillicothe Correctional Center, nursing home and worked as a parole officer for eight years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, William “Bill” Tharp of Breckenridge; a sister, Mary Breeze of Breckenridge; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice May Tharp; and two brothers.
