Helen E. Jenkins, a 97-year-old former resident of Hannibal, died on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005 at the Indian Hills Retirement Village at Chillicothe, where she had resided since 1997.

Helen E. Jenkins, a 97-year-old former resident of Hannibal, died on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005 at the Indian Hills Retirement Village at Chillicothe, where she had resided since 1997.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005 at the Avalon Cemetery at Avalon. Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005 at the Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe and from 8 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
Mrs. Jenkins was born on Jan. 9, 1908 at Avalon, the daughter of George C. and Mabel A. Poller Kerns. She was a 1926 graduate of Avalon High School. She was married on May 21, 1950 at Centralia to Leland A. Jenkins, who preceded her in death. She was a school teacher for many years and taught in the Hannibal and Macon public schools. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Missouri. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing.
She is survived by one sister-in-law, Florence Kerns of Chillicothe; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Howard Kerns and J. Wilson Kerns; and two sisters, Amy Kerns and Mabel Kerns Ungaro.
The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association. They may be left at or mailed to the Lindley Funeral Home at PO Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601.
