The 2005-2006 exhibition schedule in the Doris Rider Art Gallery on the North Central Missouri College campus kicks off in a dramatic way with a showing of works by Columbia artist Lampo Leong.

“The Enchanted Light” features several recent mixed media art works and traditional Chinese ink painting on rice paper and scrolls. Leong, who is a professor of art at the University of Missouri-Columbia, is an internationally-renowned painter and multi-media artist.

“In traditional Chinese painting, the beauty of the brushstroke is a fundamental value,” Leong said. “By contrast, European painting since the Renaissance has explored the rich secrets of color. I have been able to fuse these two elemental values in multimedia works that transcend the old paradigm of East-Meets-West.”

Leong has exhibited widely over the past several years in more than 50 solo and 200 group exhibitions.

“It’s very exciting to bring the work of such a successful artist to Trenton,” Gallery Director Jim Norris said. “Mr. Leong’s exhibit provides a wonderful opportunity to view first class art in our local setting.”

“The Enchanted Light” is now open and runs through Friday, Sept. 16. Regular gallery hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. as well as selected weekend and evening hours. For more information, persons can call Norris at 359-3948, ext. 345.
