George Alford Smith, a 76-year-old resident of Chillicothe, died on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005 at the Liberty Hospital in Liberty.

George Alford Smith, a 76-year-old resident of Chillicothe, died on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005 at the Liberty Hospital in Liberty.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005 at the Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Burial will be in the Edgewood Cemetery at Chillicothe.

General visitation begins at 8 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 19, 2005 at the Lindley Funeral Home, where a family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday.

Mr. Smith was born on Feb. 26, 1929 at Chula, the son of George W. and Dora Hapes Smith. He graduated from Chillicothe High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a farmer in Livingston County his entire life. He was a member of the Peppy Promenaders Square Dance Club and the Vern R. Glick American Legion Post No. 25 of Chillicothe.

He is survived by one son, Steven Smith of Chula; two daughters, Linda Kay Crowe and her husband, James, of Manhattan, KS, and Leanna Eversmeyer and her husband, Larry, of Oklahoma City, OK: his special companion, Hilah Shira of Chillicothe; one brother, Larry Smith and his wife, Barbara, of Chillicothe; one sister, Betty Chrisman and her husband, Bob, of Gallatin; three grandchildren, Jeffry Crowe, Laurie Kerr and her husband, Daniel, and Suzanne Eversmeyer; one great-grandson, Simon James Kerr; four nephews and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Robert, Raymond and Henry.
