The Princeton and Grundy R-5 boards of education met Monday night, approving policies and lunch prices, discussing needed repairs and setting the dates for tax levy hearings.
Grundy R-5
The Grundy R-5 Board of Education approved policies regarding seventh and eighth grade students, set meal prices for the 20005-2006 school and scheduled a tax levy hearing during its meeting.
According to information provided by Superintendent Rob Deaver, the board approved a change in the wording of an existing board policy on the retention/promotion of seventh and eighth grade students. The policy originally read that seventh and eighth grade students must pass six of eight classes each year and must pass all MAP-tested subjects in order to be promoted to the next grade. The board approved a change in the wording from ?MAP-tested subjects? to ?all core classesl” This was done to alleviate ambiguity since not all core subjects are MAP-tested at the seventh and eighth grade levels.
The board also approved a new policy which allows seventh and eighth grade students to make up a first semester ?F? in a core class during summer school in that class if successful credit is earned in that class the second semester.
The board discussed the possibility of allowing an interested party to use the district?s preschool building for preschool this upcoming school year. The preschool would not be affiliated with the Grundy R-5 School District. The interested party is looking into the feasibility of this. The building has not been used for the past three years.
In other business, the Annual Secretary of the Board Report was approved, showing ending balances for the district to be $739,822.26, including unrestricted balances of $384,705.72. The board also voted to leave the student and adult meal prices the same as last year. Breakfast will be $1,05 (reduced prices will be 30 cents); elementary lunches will be $1.65 (reduced will be 40 cents); high school lunches will be $1.75 (reduced will be 40 cents); adult breakfast will be $1.35; and adult lunches will be $2.25.
The board voted to reimburse Curtis May for testing fees required for taking the Praxis test in the area of biology. May is seeking additional certification in high school biology.
The board set the tax rate hearing for 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 15 at the high school in Galt, with the regular board meeting to follow at 7 p.m.
Princeton R-5
The Princeton R-5 Board of Education met in regular session on Monday night, approving bids and asking for public input concerning issues involving the school gymnasium and elementary building.
According to information provided by Superintendent Alan Hamilton, the board approved a bid from Anderson Erickson to provide dairy products for the 2005-2006 school year and Sarah Lee Bakery to provide bread products. Donna Lutzen reported on Booster Club activities planned for the coming year and approval was given to the elementary handbooks.
A discussion was held on the school gymnasium and elementary facility, which is the focus of needed repairs that have been estimated to cost nearly $1 million. The board approved payment of $50 per night to the Mercer School District for use of the Mercer gymnasium by the R-5 District, with Princeton hiring Mercer personnel to do the cleanup of the facility after each use.
The board also decided to invite members of the public to give their input concerning the gym and elementary building during the Monday, Aug. 8 board meeting. The tax levy hearing will be held at 7 p.m. on that day, followed by the regular meeting.
