Park Board Hears Update
The Trenton Park Board heard an update on the progress of work at Van Meter Park and other projects during a short meeting held Wednesday afternoon at city hall.
Park Superintendent Jason Shuler said the new basketball courts have been poured with the goal posts and chain link fence posts installed. Park Department employees are in the process of installing the 12-foot chain link fencing and once that is completed, backboards and goals will be installed.
Shuler also updated the board on the extension to the walking trail and said that some areas will have to be reseeded following heavy rains that occurred right after the seeding was completed. He also said signage and two benches still need to be installed on the trail. He noted that a new air conditioner has been installed in the concession stand at the Ebbe Sports Complex and reported that a limb had been blown onto a part of the concession stand, causing some damage.
It was reported by pool committee members that everything is going good at the Trenton Family Aquatic Center, which has seen good attendance numbers this year. Shuler said a training session was held this week for pool and park department employees. The training focused on the employees? responsibility to report child abuse and focused on when and how to report incidents. It was also noted that the long-term financing on the pool is finally moving forward, with this round of bonding to be closed by mid-month.
Shuler said the TBA season is over and indicated that with the church league and Premium Standard Farms games, there are only four days in July that the fields won?t be marked.
Shuler briefed the board on the World Changers? visit, saying the department would be putting portable restrooms in areas where the crews will be working. He also discussed assistance the park department is giving the Lions Club as they construct a new concession stand. He also discussed the North Central Missouri Fair Board?s work on the new livestock barns.
Shuler said Brent Applebury has been putting facia on the courtyard at the Rock Barn to meet requirements for his Eagle Scout project and another Eagle project discussed would involve the construction of a new welcome booth.
Board Member Chuck Lankheit, who presided over the meeting, said Dr. Nick McHargue, organizer of the Gooseberry Festival, has asked that the park department reserve the ballfields and Rock Barn area for the third weekend in June again next year for the festival. Proceeds from the event are used to benefit the park department and Lankheit said he believes the proceeds this year will total $700 to $800.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3.
