Marcus Milo Hounsom, a 75-year-old resident of Unionville, died on Friday, July 1, 2005 at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital in Unionville, where he had been admitted the previous day.

Marcus Milo Hounsom, a 75-year-old resident of Unionville, died on Friday, July 1, 2005 at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital in Unionville, where he had been admitted the previous day. He had been a resident of the Putnam County Care Center for several months prior to that time.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at the First Christian Church in Unionville. Brother Gene Weece conducted the service.
Donita Weece provided the organ music and Kevin Collins was the soloist. Music selections included ?Beyond the Sunset? and ?Amazing Grace.?
Casketbearers were Darl Davis, Dave Halley, Ronnie Jones, Nelson Michael, Dave Mitchell, Duane Crawford and Tim Fernandez.
Burial was in the Unionville Cemetery under the direction of the Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville.
Mr. Hounsom was born on Sept. 3, 1929 in Glenwood, the son of Walter M. and Cora M. Hubley Hounsom. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1950, serving in the Korean Conflict until 1954. After his discharge, he was married on Sept. 4, 1954 in Kirksville to Bonnie Jones, who survives of the home in Unionville. He attended Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State University) in Kirksville, graduating with a bachelor of arts degree. He began teaching high school science at Unionville High School in 1959. He earned a master of arts from NMSU and in 1970 became principal at Unionville High School. He helped guide the transition from UHS to Putnam County R-1 and became superintendent in 1980. He held that position until his retirement in 1991. He also received his education specialist from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
He was a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association and the Missouri State High School Activities Association. He was a member of the Unionville Masonic Lodge No. 210 and the American Legion Post No. 34 at Unionville as well as the Unionville First Christian Church. He was a member of the Unionville City Council. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trips to Colorado with friends. He was a Little League coach for his sons.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Tracy and his wife, Barbara, of St. Louis and Craig and his wife, Lora, of Rolla; five grandchildren, Marcus, Anna and Samuel Hounsom and Jackson and Adam Hounsom; and several niece, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son.
