James Robert “Bob” Burress, a 77-year-old resident of Powersville, died on Friday, July 1, 2005 at his home.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at the Luscan Funeral Home in Unionville. Marty Brundage officiated. Burial was in the Unionville Cemetery.
Mr. Burress was born on June 10, 1928 in Centerville, IA, the son of George and Sarah Elizabeth Moore Burress. He was raised in the Powersville area, attended rural schools and graduated from Powersville High School. He was married on June 23, 1962 in Worth County to Shirley Proctor, who preceded him in death on March 20, 2000. The couple made their home in the Midwest, living in Wisconsin, Missouri and Iowa while Bob worked for the Milwaukee Railroad. Following his retirement, the couple made their home in Powersville, where he enjoyed working on the farm and raising cattle. He enjoyed Kansas City Royals and Chiefs games as well as playing cards, Bingo and going to casinos. He enjoyed dancing and being with his children and grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by a son, Darrin Burress and his wife, Jennifer, of Garner, IA; a daughter, Sara Hadley and her husband, Dean, of Shannon City, IA; five grandchildren, Allison, Lauren and Elizabeth Hadley and Dakota and Jacob Burress; two step-sisters, Sally and Millie; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father and step-brother.
The family suggests memorials to the Lions Club. They may be left at or mailed to the Luscan Funeral Home in Unionville.
