William Richard Thomas, a 71-year-old resident of Lake Viking, died on Sunday, June 19, 2005 at his home. He was a former Jamesport resident.

William Richard Thomas, a 71-year-old resident of Lake Viking, died on Sunday, June 19, 2005 at his home. He was a former Jamesport resident.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Jamesport. Burial will be at the Old Scotland Cemetery near Jameson.

Open visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Mr. Thomas was born on Dec. 1, 1933 in Jameson, the son of Walter and Ada Belle Thomas. He and his family moved to the Jamesport area in 1940 to make their home. During that time he worked at a local gas station and sawmill and attended school at Jamesport. He later joined the Army. Following his military service, he was employed by Dr. Forrest and Mae Bell Bailey, where he worked and farmed for 45 years, always doing what needed to be done. He retired and moved to Lake Viking in 2000.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Mr. Thomas is survived by two sisters, Frances McLaughlin of Altamont and Bonita Miner of Sunrise Beach; six nieces; and four nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Howard Thomas.

The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Old Scotland Cemetery.
