The Jamesport City Council voted to proceed with plans to place a revenue bond issue on the November ballot, purchased a riding lawnmower and set the date for a special session during a meeting held Tuesday evening at city hall.
According to information provided by City Clerk Carol Cass, the council was told by Mayor Jerry Pierce that the city will need $1,000,000 in long-term financing to connect to the Livingston County Public Water Supply District #4 for water and sewer services. He explained that municipalities commonly use revenue bonds as a means of raising funds for such projects and after discussion, the council voted to proceed with the bond election paperwork in order to place the issue on the November ballot.
Pierce also advised the council that the preliminary engineering application is still in the review committee in Jefferson City and council members discussed the progress of water meter installation and the need for a check meter replacement. The council voted to replace the one-inch check meter only at this time.
Jerry Bailey, a Jamesport citizen, met with the council to see if there was any assistance available to himself and other community members concerning Daviess County reassessment. Bailey said assessment on his property has increased 136 percent.
In other business, the council allowed street closings as designated previously for the remainder of the year and discussed the progress of the dust control on city streets, which has been working well. It was agreed to extend the dust control coverage from the Maude Buckler resident to the Gary Alexander residence on Elm Street. The council also discussed the continuing problem of horse manure at the hitching rack not being cleaned up and tabled the issue of a dog ordinance until the next meeting.
Councilmembers voted to purchase a used riding lawnmower from Ron Nichols (who abstained from voting) for $200 and voted to purchase a tire from MTO in Trenton for backhoe at a cost of $339.96 for the tire, labor and service call.
The council also voted to hold a special meeting at 4 p.m. June 28 to approval the annual budget. The next regular meeting is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. July 12.
