Frank N. Shannon, an 84-year-old resident of Chillicothe, died Monday,, May 30, 2005 at North Kansas City.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 2, 2005 at the Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe. A family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 1005 at the funeral home. General visitation will be held from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Wednesday and from 8 a.m. until service time on Thursday. Burial will be in the Avalon Cemetery in Avalon.
Mr. Shannon was born on Feb. 26, 1921, the son of George William and Nellie Blanche Linton Shannon.
Mr. Shannon graduated as the valedictorian of Avalon High School in 1939 and the family moved from the farm to Chillicothe in 1945, where he worked at Montgomery Ward, J.C. Penney and Anderson Dress Shop before beginning his employment at Engleman?s Shoes, where he remained for 36 years, 20 of which he was a manager. He retired in 1986.
On Jan. 14, 1955, he married JoAnne Stacy, a Chillicothe school teacher at the First Christian Church in Chillicothe. The two had celebrated their 50th anniversary in January. She survives of the home.
Mr. Shannon was a member of the First Christian Church in Chillicothe, where he was a deacon, helped prepare communion and served on the Landscaping Committee. He also helped deliver Mobile Meals in his later years. His hobbies included growing over 125 varieties of daylilies in his backyard and collecting and selling antiques.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Shannon is survived by a son, Jon Shannon and his wife, Karen of Chillicothe; two daughters, Jill Seiberling and her husband, David of Kansas City and Lisa Hobbs and her husband, Tommie of Chillicothe; 11 grandchildren, including Aaron McNally and his wife, Rachel of Richmond, KY; Lindsey McNally of Seattle, WA; Erica Blue of Chillicothe; Lisa Seiberling of St. Joseph; Scott and Todd Shannon of Chillicothe; Emily Shannon of Hale; Hunter and Tanner Hobbs of Chillicothe; Erica Newman and her husband, Darin of Chillicothe; and Brad Stubbs of Chillicothe; three great-grandchildren, Clara Caye McNally of Richmond; and Colby and Morgan Newman of Chillicothe.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lena Lois Reineke of Florida.
Memorial contributions have been suggested to the Capital Improvement Fund at the First Christian Church of Chillicothe. These may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home at P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601.
