John Edward Lane, an 80-year-old resident of Princeton, died on Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2005 at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Princeton. Pastors Guy Olin Thomas and Howard Leasure will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, northwest of Princeton.
An open visitation is under way at the funeral home, with a family visitation planned for 7 to 8 o’clock tonight (Thursday, May 12, 2005) at the funeral home.
Mr. Lane was born on April 29, 1925 near Princeton in Mercer County, the son of Walter McVey and Flora Pearl O’Banion Lane. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. Prior to entering the service, he was employed by the Burlington Railroad for eight months. He was discharged from the Army, then worked for Ralph Hayward at the Haven Service Station in Princeton for 31 years. He enjoyed taking rides in the country, working on lawnmowers and raising watermelons and strawberries. He was a member of the Princeton First Baptist Church.
He was married on Jan. 17, 1950 to Iris Fair, who survives him of the home in Princeton.
He is also survived by a daughter, Linda White of Humphreys; two sons, Jimmie Lane and his wife, Susan, of Leon IA and Joe Lane and his wife, Hilka, of Princeton; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ralph Lane; and a sister, Maxine Alduck.
