A 1973 graduate of Trenton Junior College will return to his community college alma mater to serve as commencement speaker for ceremonies scheduled for Saturday, May 14 at North Central Missouri College.
Dr. Fred B. Holman, Ph.D., is vice provost for Extended Studies at the University of Nevada-Reno, where he oversees the university’s extensive outreach efforts in continuing and distance education. In addition, he is the chief operating officer of the university’s new Redfield campus in south Reno, the university’s world-class Fire Science Academy in Carlin, NV and the Fleischmann Planetarium and Science Center on the university campus. He was previously the dean of continuing education and adult education at St. Thomas University in Miami, FL, serving a diverse urban population representing more than 150 countries and 60 languages.
Dr. Holman received his doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Iowa in Iowa City and holds a master of arts degree in history from Truman State University (formerly Northeast Missouri State University) in Kirksville. Dr. Holman earned his bachelor of arts degree from William Penn University in Oskaloosa, IA and obtained his associate of arts degree from Trenton Junior College (now North Central Missouri College) in 1973. He has taught undergraduate courses in human relations for educators, history of western civilization, and African-American history as well as graduate courses in adult learning theory and higher education administration.
A native of the central Missouri town of Vandalia, Dr. Holman attended Trenton Junior College, excelling in the classroom as well as being a member of the Pirate basketball team. He and his wife, Mary, have three grown children.
The 79th graduating class of the community college will celebrate commencement in the Ketcham Community Center on the NCMC campus beginning at 10:30 am. A total of 301 graduates are scheduled to receive degrees and certificates.
