Basket Auction At Rissler On Friday

The fifth annual Rissler Elementary School PTO Silent Auction is scheduled for Friday night, with items ranging from a football autographed by a University of Missouri football star to a free camping site to original artwork being offered for sale. In addition, the event will be held in conjunction with a buy one, get one free book fair.

The fifth annual Rissler Elementary School PTO Silent Auction is scheduled for Friday night, with items ranging from a football autographed by a University of Missouri football star to a free camping site to original artwork being offered for sale. In addition, the event will be held in conjunction with a buy one, get one free book fair.

The book fair and bidding for the auction will begin at 4 p.m. in the Rissler Gym, with the winners of the auction being announced at 7 p.m.

The themes for the classroom baskets this year are ?Barbie?, ?Hot Wheels?, ?What?s Cooking?, ?Splish! Splash! Take A Bath!?, ?The Great Outdoors? and ?How Does Your Garden Grow?” (with items donated from Barnes Greenhouses).

Donated baskets that will be available for auction include the following:

? ?Road Trip? – Two tickets to a Kansas City Royals baseball game and a stadium parking pass. Donated by KTTN Radio.

? ?Let?s Eat? – Two $25 gift certificates to Washington Street Food and Drink Co. Donated by Washington Street.

? ?Movie Night? – A DVD player and six free movie rentals from Mr. Movies.

? ?Back to Nature? – One free camping site (for up to four people) and four games of miniature golf at the Down Under Camp Resort at Turney. Donated by Bonnie Beck, owned of Down Under Camp Resort.

? M-I-Z-Z-O-U!!! – A Missouri Tiger football, autographed by quarterback Brad Smith, #16.

? ?Home Interiors Garden Tote? – a tote filled with five different Home Interiors candles. Donated by Sheila Phillips.

? ?Pamper Yourself? – Keri Gott of Cutting Loose Salon has donated this basket with a gift certificate for 10 free tanning sessions, Immediate Intensifier, shampoo and conditioner.

? ?Golf? – Two one-hour golf lessons donated by Trenton High School girls golf coach Ann Constant.

Art will be another theme at the auction , featuring original art from students as well as a painting by Louise Reasoner entitled ?Children at Play.” The painting features a scene with children playing on the Rissler playground. There will be a reserve on this item.

Artwork created by students includes one from Mrs. Gutshall?s first grade class; one from each of the third grade classes of Mrs. Wyant, Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Schmidt; and one from each of the fourth grade classes of Mrs. McDonald, Mrs. Link and Mrs. McClintick.

Three sign-up parties will also be offered for sale. The ?Sunshine Party Package? will include a two-hour party of dazzling sun-filled fun and facts, hosted by Rissler Principal Kathy Nolke and Rissler Guidance Counselor Dorothy Allnutt. A group of 12 students will have ice cream sundaes and make a craft from 3 to 5 p.m. on Monday, May 23. This basket will be sold as a package deal for a group of 12 students.

A second sign-up party will be an after school pizza party, scheduled for 3 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 12. The event will be hosted by kindergarten teachers and will be open to the first 25 kindergarten students who sign up. Students will be making pizzas, playing games, participating in water play and going on a scavenger hunt. The cost is $10 per child.

The third sign-up party is called ?Let?s Shoot Hoops? and will be hosted by North Central Missouri College Men?s Basketball Coach Steve Richman. This will include a mini basketball camp to be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 16. The cost is $10 per person.

In addition to the auction, a buy one, get one free book fair will be held. Those attending will have the opportunity to browse through hundreds of great books, posters, school supplies and more. Parents will have the opportunity to purchase a book to be donated to their child?s classroom library. Teachers have been asked to fill out a ?classroom wish list? so parents will know which books they think will add to their students? knowledge and imagination. The books will become a permanent part of the classroom library, with every gift being recognized with a bookplate identifying your family or child as a donor.
