Mark E. Whiteaker, an 82-year-old resident of Trenton, died at 6:05 a.m. on Sunday, April 17, 2005 at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton, where he had been admitted on Sunday, April 10, 2005.

Mark E. Whiteaker, an 82-year-old resident of Trenton, died at 6:05 a.m. on Sunday, April 17, 2005 at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton, where he had been admitted on Sunday, April 10, 2005.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Trenton. A family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at the Resthaven Mortuary, north of Trenton.

Mr. Whiteaker was born on April 29, 1922 at Weatherby, the son of Mark E. and Bessie Leonard Whiteaker. He graduated in 1939 from Weatherby High School. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946. He received a bachelor of science degree in education from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg in 1947. He received his masters degree in 1953 from Northern Colorado University in Greeley, CO.

He was married on Aug. 11, 1948 at Greeley to Rebekah Meyer, who survives of the home. They moved to Princeton, where he was the coach at Princeton High School, coaching boys football, basketball and track and girls volleyball for five years. He then coached at Maysville for two years before moving to Trenton. He coached high school football and junior college basketball at Trenton. He then began employment with B&W Sporting Goods and sold for them for 20 years. He served as the juvenile officer from 1964 to 1993 for the Third Judicial Circuit, composed of Grundy, Harrison, Mercer and Putnam counties.

He was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Trenton, the Joseph L. Norton VFW Post No. 919 and the Major Dale Stepp American Legion Post No.31. He served one term on the Trenton R-9 Board of Education and 18 years on the North Central Missouri College Board of Trustees, including four years as president. He was a member of the National Cage Bird Show Board of Directors since 1972, serving six years as president. His hobby was raising, exhibiting and judging canary bird shows. He had judged canary shows in 25 states and in Canada over the years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Margaret Carson of Maysville; two nephews, John Carson of Independence and James Carson of Maysville; and two nieces, June Hower of St. Joseph and Su Ellen McFee of Maysville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James F. Whiteaker.

The family suggests memorials to a scholarship fund in Mr. Whiteaker’s name for the North Central Missouri College Athletic Department or the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. These may be left at or mailed to the Resthaven Mortuary at PO Box 587, Trenton, MO 64683.
