The Pleasant View R-6 Board of Education met Tuesday evening, electing officers, approving plans for summer school and accepting a resignation.

According to information provided by Superintendent Rob Deaver, the board certified election results and gave the oath of office to Tim Allen, Toni Wilson and Kyle Russell for three-year terms and Joe Brinser for a one-year unexpired term. All officers were re-elected and include Don Meservey, president; Joe Brinser, vice president; Doug Dolan, treasurer; and Tim Allen, secretary.

The board approved summer school plans, with classes to begin Monday, May 23 and running through June 17. School will be in session from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, with no classes on Memorial Day.

In other business, the board authorized bids to be sought for the sale of an old freezer. Bids will be accepted at the school office through May 10 and will be opened at the board meeting that evening. Two field trips were approved, with first through fourth grade students going to Belton for a train ride and other activities on May 6 and fifth through eighth grade students going to Kansas City on May 13 to the IMAX Theater at the Kansas City Zoo and to the Steamboat Arabia.

The board accepted the resignation of Curtis May as part-time physical education instructor. May has accepted a full-time job in the Grundy R-5 School District.

In his report, Deaver said the elementary spring music program is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. April 22, while the third, fourth, seventh and eighth grade students are taking MAP tests this week and next week. The Community Club dinner and talent show is is scheduled for 6 p.m. April 29 at the school.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for May 10.
