Richard Lee ?Dick? Franklin, a 53-year-old Princeton resident, died on Monday, March 28, 2005 at his home in Princeton.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2005 in the Princeton R-5 School gymnasium. Pastors Guy Olin Thomas and Tim Wilson will officiate, under the direction of the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Service of Princeton. Burial will be in the Princeton Cemetery.

Open visitation will begin at 8 a.m. on Friday, April 1, 2005 at the funeral home, where a family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 o’clock that evening.

Mr. Franklin was born on March 4, 1952 in Princeton, the son of Billy Lee and Roberta Joyce Woodward Franklin. He was raised in Princeton and was a 1970 graduate of Princeton High School, where he excelled in sports, especially football. After high school, he attended the University of Missouri-Columbia for three years on a football scholarship.

He was married to Patricia Sue Fischer on Aug. 24, 1979 in Watson. She survives of the home.

At the time of his marriage, Mr. Franklin was a member of a carpenter?s union and was employed by a bridge building company working in and around Kansas City and St. Joseph. The couple lived in Easton and moved to Princeton in 1985, with Mr. Franklin commuting to work in Kansas City. He was employed in April 1993 by Premium Standard Farms near Princeton as a grow-finish complex manager.

Mr. Franklin was a member of the Princeton First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, trustee, youth leader and Sunday school teacher. His hobbies included coaching kids and hunting, especially coon hunting with his mules. He also loved dogs, especially his favorite, Swartz.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Franklin is survived by two daughters, Rachel Franklin and Becca Franklin and her fiance, Nathan Evans; a sister, Ruthie Holt; a brother, Bob Franklin and his wife, Terri; and his parents, Bill and Joyce Franklin, all of the Princeton area; and by several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Russell Lee Franklin.

The family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Princeton First Baptist Church Building Fund. These may be mailed to the church at 1000 E. Main St., Princeton, MO 64673.
