Mary Catherine Bruce Hoffman, 81, a resident of 141 Main St. in Trenton, died Wednesday afternoon, March 23, 2005 at the Eastview Manor Care Center in Trenton.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2005 at the Hodge Presbyterian Church in Trenton. Rev. Jennifer Jennings will officiate. Burial of the cremains will be held at a later date.
A family visitation will be held at the Hodge Presbyterian Church Youth Hall from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Mrs. Hoffman was born Oct. 7, 1923 in Chillicothe, the daughter of Jesse Ammon and Bertha Emma Phillips Bruce. She graduated from Maryville High School in 1941 and from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville in 1947. Mrs. Hoffman taught school in Knoxville, IA and Clayton. She had been a resident of Trenton for over 50 years.
She was married at Maryville on July 9, 1950 to Charles D. Hoffman, who survives of the home.
Mrs. Hoffman was a member of Hodge Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder. She was also a member of American Association of University Women (AAUW), Antique Study Club, PEO and Midland Empire Girl Scouts, all of Trenton.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Martha Jeanette Hoffman Groggel of Omaha, NE; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Phillip and Connie Peyton Hoffman and Christopher Bruce and Jackie Derry Hoffman, all of Trenton; nine grandchildren, Gretchen Groggel of Boston, MA, Gregory Groggel, Laura Groggel and Anne Groggel all of Omaha, NE, and Eric Hoffman, Adriane Hoffman, Katherine Hoffman, Elizabeth Hoffman and Charles David Hoffman all of Trenton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Nina Garten, Neva Stanfield, and Marjorie Cofer; and a brother, Nolan Bruce.
Memorials have been suggested to the Grundy County Girl and Boy Scout Trust, Hodge Presbyterian Church, the Ameri-can Cancer Society or the charity of the donor’s choice. These may be left at the funeral home.
