The NCMC spring play, the classic comedy “Blithe Spirit ” by Noel Coward, will be presented at the Hoover Theatre in the Grundy County-Jewett Norris Library on Friday and Saturday, April 8 and 9, at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, April 10, at 2 p.m.
Six NCMC students and one college employee will take roles in this story of a writer who holds a séance to get ideas for his next book but winds up with more than he bargains for in the ghost of his first wife.
John Sampson, an NCMC freshman from Trenton, will play Charles Condomine, a wealthy and successful writer. His current wife, Ruth, will be played by sophomore Megan Ingersoll of Unionville.
The “blithe spirit” of the first Mrs. Condomine will be played by Jessica Heeron, who works in the NCMC Academic Resource Center. Erica Jones, a freshman from Osborn, will play Madame Arcati, the medium who conducts the séance.
Sophomores John Jacob Caselman and Cecilia Spath will play Dr. and Mrs. Bradman, skeptical friends of the Condomines who attend the séance. Both performers graduated from Bucklin High School.
Rounding out the cast is April Biggerstaff of Chillicothe. She plays the family?s clumsy maid Edith, a woman with a secret.
Dr. Vicki Wheeler, associate dean of arts and sciences at NCMC, is directing the show. Members of her Introduction to Theatre class will be providing help on the production, including running lights and sound, building set, locating costumes, creating the program, and ushering. Four members of the class – April Biggerstaff, John Jacob Caselman, Cecilia Spath and Erica Jones – also appear in the show.
Tickets for the production are now on sale in the Ketcham Community Center. They are also available from cast members. Tickets are free to Grundy County Friends of the Arts season ticketholders and NCMC students. Tickets are $5 for all others. Reserve seats can be chosen at the KCC. Seating is limited to 136 each show time.
