The Grundy County Commission accepted bids for two items during its meeting on Wednesday and discussed the location of the county prosecutor?s office.

A fuel bid was awarded to Trenton MFA and, at two and one-half cents off the pump price, was the lowest of two received. Also accepted was a bid from Brewer and Ireland Contracting for mowing of the courthouse and jail yards as well as the Wynne, Sires and Bethel cemeteries. The bid included the following costs: courthouse and jail, $60; Wynne Cemetery, $35; Sires, $45; and Bethel, $75. The bid was the lowest of three received.

In addition the commission met with Prosecuting Attorney Jason Spillman, who said he plans to leave the prosecutor?s office at its current location, 924 Main St., rather than moving it to the courthouse as had been discussed. Spillman and the commission agreed that he would not receive any rental or utility funding from the county as has been the case with past prosecutors. Other business included approving the mailing of 170 letters to persons who have brush on their property that needs to be removed. Those receiving the letters will have from 30 to 90 days to remove the brush before the county will do it and place a special tax on the owner?s tax bill.

The commission will meet Wednesday, rather than Tuesday, again next week.
