The Pleasant View R-6 Board of Education met Tuesday evening, discussing kindergarten enrollment numbers, voting to pay for some background checks and voting to rehire all staff members.

According to Superintendent Rob Deaver, the board approved limiting kindergarten enrollment to 12 students next fall unless the number of in-district students exceeds 12. So far, it looks like there are three to four in-district students to be enrolled. Kindergarten Roundup will be held held April 7.

The board also voted to reimburse successful candidates for their background check upon return of a favorable report and agreed to sell an old freezer that has been replaced. The 2005-2006 school calendar was approved, with school starting on Wednesday, Aug. 17 and ending on Wednesday, May 17, 2006.

Deaver announced that the district has been named in the Top 10 in the state for MAP scores in third grade communication arts and eighth grade math. Deaver also updated the board on state funding issues, noting that current ideas being proposed include changing how the funding is distributed. For instance, if a district is already spending $6,117 per student, they would not receive any new funding; a district that is not spending that amount would receive new funds. Deaver said he will continue to monitor the situation and update the board. Deaver also announced that classes will be dismissed at 1:20 p.m. Friday to allow teachers to figure grades for the third quarter.

The board voted unanimously to offer contracts to all certified staff for the 2005-2006 school year, with salaries to be determined at a later date.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. April 12.
