A collection of paintings and illustrations by Kansas City artist Allan Chow will continue the 2004-2005 exhibition schedule in the Dorris Rider Art Gallery at North Central Missouri College.
Chow, who is originally from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2001. He is currently a designer and illustrator for the Kansas City Star, where his illustrations and design work can be found on feature covers and in the Star Magazine. His work also illustrates a recently published calendar commemorating Kansas City?s Civil War Battle of Westport.
The NCMC exhibit features two distinct bodies of work, featuring landscapes documenting his most recent trip to his hometown in Malaysia, and paintings of wildlife.
?Most of us are fascinated with animals and the environment they live in,? said Chow. ?These paintings are reflections of my love for the animal kingdom.?
?I am very excited for Allan Chow to share his work with NCMC and Trenton,? Rider Gallery Director Jim Norris said. ?He has great technical abilities and his style is an interesting mix of illustration and fine art, with influences everywhere from Impressionism to Chinese painting to American Abstract Expressionism.?
?Allan Chow – Painting and Illustration? opens Monday Feb. 21 and runs through March 18. He will present a gallery talk and painting demonstration at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feeb. 28 at the gallery, which is located in the Frey Administration Building at NCMC.
