Funeral services for Robert Evans will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005 at the Modena Christian Church in Modena. Rev. Hugh G. Watkins will officiate. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery at Mill Grove.

Funeral services for Robert Evans will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005 at the Modena Christian Church in Modena. Rev. Hugh G. Watkins will officiate. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery at Mill Grove.

A family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005 at the Wise and Slater Funeral Chapel in Spickard.

Mr. Evans, a 98-year-old resident of Modena, died on Wednesday evening, Feb. 16, 2005 at the Crestview Nursing Home in Bethany.

Mr. Evans was born on June 18, 1906 in Mercer, the son of MErton and Amy Hashman Hartsook Evans. He attended Mercer County schools. He was a farmer near Modena most of his life. He was a lifetime member of the Mercer County Farm Bureau and served on the Mercer County reorganization board. He was a past member of the Modena School Board and a former township trustee. He also served on the Mercer County Extension Council and was the last surviving member of the Modena Band.

Mr .Evans was a member of the Missouri National Guard during World War II. He worked for the Rock Island Railroad in the 1920s and helped build bridges in the community for the highway department. He was a member of the Modena Christian Church, serving as treasurer until the time of his death. He enjoyed deer hunting and hunted until 2004.

He was married on Dec. 16, 1933 at Princeton to Edith Klingensmith, who died on Oct. 14, 2001.

Survivors include one son, Edward Evans of Princeton; and one daughter, Ardith Spencer of Valley Falls, KS; six grandchildren, Bob Evans of Milan, Jim Evans and Dennis Evans of Princeton, Ammin Spencer of Monterrey, CA, Evan Spencer of Lawrence, KS and Erin Spencer of Valley Falls; and six great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Carl Evans, and two sisters, Eva Campbell and Ruth Lamphier.

The family suggests memorials to the Modena Christian Church. They may be left at the funeral chapel.
