Norma Helen Putnam an 84-year-old resident of Chillicothe, died on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005 at the Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005 at the Princeton United Methodist Church. Pastor Gary Ponder Williams will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Paul Cemetery, northwest of Princeton, under the direction of the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Service of Princeton.
An open visitation is under way at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Home in Princeton, where a family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 o’clock tonight (Friday, Feb. 11, 2005).
Mrs. Putnam was born in Mercer County on Aug. 18, 1920, the daughter of Joseph Walter and Esther Moon Oder. She was married on Dec. 5, 1938 to Ward Oliver Putnam, who preceded her in death on Oct. 11, 2004. She attended high school in Cainsville. She and her husband lived and worked on their farm in northwest Mercer County until 1989, when they sold the farm and moved to Princeton. For the past few years they made their home in Chillicothe.
Mrs. Putnam was a member of the St. Paul Methodist Church and later attended the Princeton United Methodist Church. She was an avid gardner and enjoyed her flowers and flower club. she also enjoyed sewing, making quilts and crafts, working at the Bethel United Methodist Church with the ladies group and playing Bingo at the care center. She also enjoyed visiting her children’s home and seeing her grandchildren.
She is survived by four daughters, Joyce Mason and her husband, Richard, of Placerville, CA, Janet Dinovo and her husband, Gus, of Holts Summit, Geneva Parsons and her husband, Eudean, of Cainsville and Gale Stoklasa and her husband, Bill, of Eagleville; two sons, Allen Putnam and his wife, Sandra, of Blaine, MN, and Roger Putnam and his wife, Marcia, of Chillicothe; one brother, Clayton Oder of Nixa; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and neighbors.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Wayne, Ray, Talmot (Jiggs) and George Lee; and four sisters, Nina, Opal, Maude and Violet.
