John Thomas (J.T.) McIntosh, an 89-year-old resident of West Des Moines, IA, died on Friday, Jan. 28, 2005 at the Veteran?s Hospital in Des Moines.

John Thomas (J.T.) McIntosh, an 89-year-old resident of West Des Moines, IA, died on Friday, Jan. 28, 2005 at the Veteran?s Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005 at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Lineville, IA. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Lineville.

An open visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 11, 2005 at the funeral home.

Mr. McIntosh was born April 14, 1915 in Wayne County, IA, near Lineville, the son of Robert Clayton and Nellie Leah Bryan McIntosh. He was raised in Lineville and was a 1933 graduate of Lineville High School. He was married on Feb. 2, 1946 to Alfreda Beavers, who survives him of the home in West Des Moines.

He received a teacher’s certificate from Simpson College in Indianola, IA and taught in a rural school north of Lineville for a short time. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Infantry, and was a prisoner of war in Germany. After the war, he attended Iowa State College in Ames, IA, receiving a master’s degree in agriculture.

He was employed by National Fertilizer (now known as Tech Cominco) in Des Moines for several years. He was a member of the Iowa Fertilizer and Chemical Association, serving as president in 1981. He and his wife made their home in West Des Moines for many years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sisters, Allie Leazer and her husband, Robert, of Corydon, IA, and Hazel Bagby of Lake Havasu City, AZ; four brothers, Wayne McIntosh of Cheyenne, WY, Billy McIntosh and his wife, Loraine, of Santa Barbara, CA, Carroll McIntosh and his wife, Eileen, of Forsyth, and Carmen McIntosh of San Antonio, TX; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
