The Board of Public Works of Trenton Municipal Utilities met on Thursday evening at Trenton City Hall and elected officers. Phil Hoffman was re-elected president with Stan Standiferd as vice-president and Larry Woldridge as secretary. Dr. David Ryan is the other member of the board.

Utility Director Chad Davis told the board work on improvements at the water treatment plant should begin in the next few weeks.

Duncan Kincheloe, general manager of the Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission, briefed the board about proposed changes to the Missouri Public Energy Pool contracts. Trenton is one of 26 cities that are members of the pool and changes in the contract would save the pool $2 to $4 million annually in financing costs for future electric generation capacity. Kincheloe said the commission is attempting to have rates based on costs of production rather than market fluctuations and prices. He noted TMU realizes nearly $500,000 in electric power cost savings because of their capacity to generate electricity locally.

The board approved the contract changes, which will now go to the city council for its approval.

The next meeting of the board is scheduled for Feb. 22 and it will include a workshop on a long-term plan for the wastewater treatment plant.
