THS Boys Pick Up Win
The Trenton High School varsity boys basketball team avenged an early season loss to Winston on Monday evening. The Bulldogs defeated Winston 66-63 at Winston.
The Bulldogs got off to one of their best starts of the season, outscoring the Redbirds 23-13 in the first quarter. THS led at halftime, 39-23.
?This win was important for two reasons. First, they had beaten us the last two times we had played them, so it was huge to go to their place and pick up the win,? Head Coach Quentin Albrecht said. ?Secondly, we were coming off two disappointing losses, so this win was huge for our confidence.?
The win, however, did not come easily. Winston mounted a second half charge and nearly caught the Bulldogs. Winston outscored THS in the third quarter, 21-9, and also outscored Trenton in the fourth quarter, 19-18, but fell three points short.
?The first quarter and maybe even the first half was some of the best basketball we have played this season,? Albrecht said. ?Experience, conditioning and strength are all playing a part in our second half troubles. Right now we do not have a lot of depth on our bench, which is part of our problem. Overall strength is another area we need to improve on. Experience is something that we are building with each game, considering Winston?s Coty Lang, by himself, has more starts than our entire team has combined.?
Ryan Bosley led the Bulldogs with a game-high 23 points, including 14 points in the first half. Josh Lisle finished with a career-high 15 points and Derek Miller added 10 points. Jared Lee led Winston with 22 points and Lang added 17 points.
The Bulldogs improve to 5-10 overall and will travel to Gilman City on Thursday night. The game is scheduled to begin at about 7:30 following the Gilman City girls contest.
