The North Central Missouri College men’s and women’s basketball team split a pair of games with Southeastern Community College on Monday night.

The Lady Pirates beat Lady Storm, 69-60. The North Central men led by 13 points in the first half, but could not hold in the second half, falling to the Storm, 85-80.

NCMC Women

The Lady Pirates hit 9-of-14 shots from two-point range in the first half. Good shooting and 14 points first-half points from sophomore Leigh Mead helped the Lady Bulldogs build a 33-22 first half lead.

Southeastern heated up early in the second half, cutting the Lady Pirates lead to four points. Faulkers and Suda sparked the Lady Storm with 25 combined points. The duo combined for 8-of-11 from the floor and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line in the second half.

The Lady Pirates answered with 22 points off the bench in the second half. Ashley Creed led the charge by hitting 4-of-4 from three-point range.

Dana Lucas also played well in the second half, scoring all 10 of her points in the final 20 minutes.

Mead led the Lady Pirates with 16 points. Creed had 12 points and Lucas finished with 10 points. Faulkers led Southeastern with 19 points and Suda had 17 points and Anderson added 13 points.

NCMC Men

Monday night featured two separate halves for the men. The Pirates had everything going the right way in the first half, but in the second half, nothing went right.

?It was almost like two different games. In the first half our shots were falling and it seemed like we were getting all the loose balls,? Head Coach Steve Richman said. ?In the second half that all changed. Southeastern started heating up and suddenly they were coming up with all the loose balls.?

The NCMC men led 50-37 heading into the break. Karl Stupnianek led all the Pirates in the first half with 10 points off the bench. North Central had 10-of-11 players with points. SECC?s lone bright spot was Ben Thorne, who singlehandedly kept the Storm in the game with 16 first-half points.

?Going into halftime I didn?t feel like we needed to make that many adjustments,? Richman said. ?We were leading by 13 points and were playing fairly well. I did tell the guys to expect them (Southeastern) to shoot better in the second half.?

Both teams hit over 50 percent from two-point range in the second half and neither team hit a single three-pointer. The difference came in the volume of shots. Southeastern hit 17-of-32 shots from two-point range. The Pirates, on the other hand, connected on only 10-of-17 shots in the second half.

?To be honest I am not sure what happened, “Richman said. “None of us did very well in the second half; not the players, not the coaches, none of us. And I am not sure why. This is one of those games that eats at you.?

The Storm outscored North Central 48-30 in the second half.

Damon Collins led NCMC with 16 points. T.J. Wesley had 12 points and Stupnianek added 10 points.

Thorne led all scorers with 21 points. Tidwell had 12 points. Rivers and Delezene each chipped in 11 points for SECC.

The North Central teams will travel to Penn Valley Community College on Thursday night.
