Henrietta Brown, a 93-year-old resident of Unionville, died on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005 at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 14, 2005 at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Princeton. Revs. Sammy Valentine and Kevin Collins will officiate. Burial will be in the Wilder Cemetery, northeast of Mercer.

Open visitation will begin at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005 at the funeral chapel, where a family visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the service time on Friday.

Mrs. Brown was born on Nov. 8, 1911 in Mercer County, the daughter of Solomon Elmer and Fannie Irene Wells Evans. She graduated from Lucerne High School and attended Kirksville State Teacher’s College. She taught school in Putnam and Mercer counties.

She was married on June 21, 1939 to Earl Ivan Brown, who preceded her in death on Sept. 23, 2002. After their marriage, they purchased a farm in the Somerset Township of Mercer County, where they made their home of 61 years. Although she had no children, Mrs. Brown always had cookies and Kool-Aid to serve for the neighborhood children when they visited. Failing health caused the couple to retire and move to the senior citizens housing in Unionville in October 2001.

Mrs. Brown was a former member of the Powersville Independent Methodist Church, where she taught classes for both Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She joined the Broadlawn Baptist Church after moving to Unionville. She also served as president of the Wyreka Cemetery Association for several years.

Mrs. Brown is survived by three sisters, Dorothy Biehl of Kirksville, Velma Swift of Colorado Springs, CO and Mary Varner of Powersville; a sister-in-law, Maxine Johnson of Bridgeport, TX; and 15 nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Opal Turpin, Thelma Clark, Violet Epps and Mildred Pauley; and a brother, Harold Dean Evans.

The family suggest memorials to the Broadlawn Baptist Church or the Hospice of Northeast Missouri. Contributions can be mailed to the funeral home at PO Box 316, Princeton, MO 64673.
