James Bowe, an 83-year-old resident of Creighton, died on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005 at his home. He was a former resident of the Alpha community near Laredo.

James Bowe, an 83-year-old resident of Creighton, died on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005 at his home. He was a former resident of the Alpha community near Laredo.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005 at the Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Burial will be in the Ricketts Cemetery at Chula.

A family visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time on Wednesday. General visitation will be held from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005 at the funeral home.

Mr. Bowe was born on Jan. 25, 1944 at Chula, the son of James W. and Mary Hinnen Bowe. He graduated from Humphreys High School in 1940. He joined the Navy in 1940 and retired as a chief machinist mate in 1960. He worked at the Richard Gebaur Air Base and the Federal Aviation Facility for 10 years. He retired from the Civil Service in 2970. After his retirement, he performed air conditioning and refrigeration work. He was a member of the Vern R. Glick American Legion Post No. 25 at Chillicothe and the Roy L. Burkett VFW Post 858 at Chillicothe. He enjoyed hunting fishing and gardening.

He was married on Jan. 26, 1944 at Kansas City to Helen Meekins, who survives of the home in Creighton.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, James Lee Bowe and his wife, Mary of Creighton, Edwin N. Bowe and his wife, Judy, of Lee?s Summit and Charles P. Bowe of Laredo; one brother, Edwin E. Bowe of San Francisco, CA; three sisters, Catherine Bethards of Laredo, Wanda Davis and her husband Dwight of North Kansas City and Mildred Halsworth and her husband, Ken, of Independence; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen and Fred.

The family suggests memorials to the Ricketts Cemetery or the Twin Lakes Hospice at Clinton. They may be left at or mailed to the Lindley Funeral Home at PO Box 47, Chillicothe MO 64601.
