Herbert E. ?Sonny? Betz, a 69-year-old resident of St. Joseph, died on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, at his home.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004 at the Mt. Auburn Cemetery under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith and Sidenfaden Chapel in St. Joseph.
Mr. Betz was born on Jan. 16, 1935 in St. Joseph, the son of William and Elizabeth Watsabaugh Betz, and was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph He served in the Navy during World War II. He was married in St. Joseph on June 13, 1953 to Shirley Jacobs, who survives of the home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Donna Brisby and her husband, Jake, St. Joseph; two sons, David Betz and his wife, Nancy, of St. Joseph Dennis Betz and his wife, Leola, of Battlefield; one sister, Beverly Gilpin of Overland Park, KS; one brother, William F. Betz and his wife, Elaine, of Rhode Island; and two grandchildren, Michael Brisby and Stacy Betz.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Betz; a sister, Billie Jean Kendall; and two great-granddaughters, Raven and Robin.
The family suggests memorials to Kendallwood Hospice.
