Norman Eugene Baker, a 69-year-old resident of Spickard, died at 12:45 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 13, 2004 at his home after a fight against cancer.

Norman Eugene Baker, a 69-year-old resident of Spickard, died at 12:45 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 13, 2004 at his home after a fight against cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004 at the Resthaven Mortuary, north of Trenton. Rev. Danny Moore will officiate, assisted by Greg Ratliff. Burial will be in the South Evans Cemetery, east of Tindall.
A family visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004 at the mortuary.
Mr. Baker was graduated in 1953 from Spickard High School. On June 13, 1954 he was married to Ramona Lou Evans at the home of her parents, west of Spickard. He served in the Army Reserves for 10 years. He was the manager of the Spickard MFA Exchange from 1956 until 1970 and then managed the Trenton MFA from 1970 to 1979. In 1980, he and his son, Evan, started Baker Seeds and formed a partnership with friend Carl Trump to become Trump and Baker Agri Service. The past 15 years Norman has enjoyed operating a frozen drink business and being a chauffeur to the Spickard Amish community.
A lifelong resident of the Spickard community, Norman was a member of the Spickard United Methodist church and the Trenton Masonic Lodge No. 111, AF&AM. He also served as past president of the Spickard R-2 school board and was on the Spickard City Council.
Norman is survived by his wife, Ramona Baker, of the home in Spickard; one son and his wife, Evan and Brenda Ferguson Baker of Smithville; one daughter and her husband, Mauna and M. Todd Speer of St. Louis; four grandchildren, Kaili and Austin Baker of Smithville and Shane and Sheena Speer of St. Louis; a sister, Helen Clark Welch of Spickard; and two nieces, Cheryl Clark Moore and Rhonda Clark Moore.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Tacia Hill Baker.
He enjoyed hunting, playing cards and horseshoes.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to either the American Cancer Society or the youth group, “Shipwreck,” at the Spickard United Methodist Church.
