Olan Thomas ?Dixie? Walker, an 89-year-old resident of Springfield, died on Sunday morning, Dec. 12, 2004 at St. John?s Hospice in Springfield, IL. He is a former resident of Trenton.
The body was cremated. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004 at the Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel in Springfield, IL. Rev. Joe Eby of the Chatham Presbyterian Church will officiate. Private graveside services will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Walker was born on Aug. 13, 1915 in Sullivan County, the son of Della and Melvin Boyd Walker. He was married in Trenton in 1933 to Mildred Bell, who preceded him in death in 1983. He was then married in 1985 to Neva Overton, who survives of the home.
Mr. Walker was a retired Teamster, having worked for the Blackhawk and Greyhound bus companies as well as Hayes Freight Lines and TransCon Trucking Company, retiring in 1976. He also was a past member of the Good Sams Camping Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Beverly Sapp and her husband, Dick, of Springfield; one son, Ronald Walker and his wife, Cheri, of Springfield; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.
