Karl Arthur McCarty, an 85-year-old resident of Lineville, IA, died on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004 in Glendale, AZ.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004 at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Lineville. Revs. Robert Markum and Steve McCarty will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Lineville. Military services will be conducted by the Mercer Ragan-Hickman Legion Post No. 477 and the Lineville Duncan-Smith Legion Post No. 506.
Mr. McCarty was born on Sept. 22, 1919 in Clio, IA, the son of Arthur and Opal Marsengill McCarty. He attended Lineville High School and later worked for the State Line Station as a tire rebuilder and drove a truck, hauling coal.
He was married in 1938 to Marda Jeanane Dykes, who preceded him in death on Aug. 8, 1996. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. After returning from the service, he and his wife lived in Kansas City, where he worked for Neevel Luggage Company and Vendo Corporation, a vending machine company. They moved to Davenport, IA in 1949, working for 30 years for the Sivyer Steel Company as a welder. After his retirement, the couple moved to Lineville in 1979. He moved to Peoria, AZ in 2004.
Mr. McCarty was a member of the Mercer Assembly of God Church and the Lineville Duncan-Smith Legion Post No. 506. He loved to fish.
He is survived by a son, Ronald McCarty and his wife, Joan, of Peoria, AZ; four grandchildren, Ronda Eagles and her husband, Kevin, of Kansas City, Rochelle Petrucci and her husband, Tom, of Marrietta, GA, Stan McCarty and his wife, Tami, of Cummings, GA and Steve McCarty and his wife, Dana, of Birmingham, AL; 10 grandchildren, Heather, Corrin, Brett and Josiah McCarty, Chad, Megan and Meredith Eagles and Luke, Larissa and Janaye Petrucci; and 11 nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Roanna McCarty; six brothers, Ed, Paul, Norman, Earl, Everett and Orville McCarty; and one sister, Floy Zimmerman.
