Trenton FFA chapter member Kendra Foster has qualified for the state Missouri Institute of Cooperatives Public Speaking Contest by placing first at the district contest, held Wednesday night in Cameron.

The contest’s purpose is to promote a better understanding of the advantages of the cooperative way of doing business. Through the public speaking contest, future leaders are encouraged and inspired to become responsible citizens in a democratic society.

“Cooperatives: Contributing to the Success of Our Communities” was the theme of Miss Foster’s speech. By placing first at the district level, she will compete at the MIC annual meeting on Feb. 9, 2005, in Jefferson City and have the chance to win a trip to the Cooperative Youth Leadership Institute.

Miss Foster is the daughter of Kendall and Mary Jo Foster of Trenton.
