The Grundy R-5 Board of Education met Monday evening, setting the filing dates for the April election, deciding not to sell activity passes and hearing reports on a number of items.

According to information provided Superintendent Harry Wheeler, the board set the filing dates for the April board election as Dec. 14-17 and Jan. 3-18. Persons interested in filing may do so at the high school during regular school hours. The three-year terms currently held by Allen Berry, Dennis McDonald and Darren Buckner will be filled, and a two-year term, currently held by Mike Herrold, will also be filled.

The board voted not to sell activity passes for the winter sports season, approved library circulation policies, as well as long- and short-range goals. The district?s annual ?report card? was also approved and will be available to the public on Dec. 1 at the high school and elementary buildings. Board policy updates were approved and the board voted to join the Missouri School Boards Association for the 2004-2005 school year.

In her report, Elementary Principal Lisa Fairley said average daily attendance at the elementary building was 94.6 percent in October and there was 97 percent attendance at the recent parent teacher conferences. It was noted that there were no violations cited during a recent health inspection. The elementary Christmas program is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Dec. 9, with early dismissals scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Nov. 19, 12:30 p.m. Nov. 24 and 12:30 p.m. Dec. 17, which will be the beginning of Christmas break. Classes will resume on Jan. 3.

High School Principal Kirk Cohagan said the first home basketball game will be Nov. 23 against Meadville and reported that the FFA Blood Drive will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 4. The high school music program is scheduled for Dec. 16. He also announced that Steven Lentz and Amber Followwill are the district?s nominees for the Wendy?s High School Heisman Award.

No announcement was made from an executive session held following the regular meeting.

The board will hold a special closed session on Nov. 29 to review superintendent applications and will hold its next regular meeting at 6 p.m. Dec. 13.
